About the Association
The OMVLIA is the principal voice of Ontario's locally owned and operated private Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Offices.
Issuers have been in business for you -- in your community -- for more than 100 years.
There are more than 200 offices well-distributed geographically across Ontario, with locations in most small towns and larger municipalities across the province. Offices are set up not only in response to population volume, but also in consideration of the need to provide convenient, direct, "over-the-counter" customer service in more remote and less-populated areas. Historically, offices are noted for their attention to unique service delivery based on community demographics and local needs.
Issuing Offices are privately owned -- most by individuals. As well, 25 are operated by Chambers of Commerce/Boards of Trade, and two by the CAA. All operators are deemed Private Issuers of Services on behalf of the Ontario government.
Private Issuers employ more than 1300 people and perform 90 per cent of the vehicle-related transactions in Ontario and 87 per cent of the total driver and vehicle transactions performed in the province.
This translates into over 19 million transactions worth more than $1.2 Billion to the provincial Treasury. The cost to Ontarians is the lowest in Canada -- four per cent -- or $42 million in fiscal 2004-05.
Out of this money, Issuers operate their private businesses -- pay their staff, rent, utilities, insurance and security costs, etc.
Issuing Offices deliver a wide range of driver and vehicle licencing services for several Ontario Government Departments, including Transportation, Attorney General and Finance. Additional services also support programs in partnership with The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council and the Registrar of Imported Vehicles.
Issuers recently joined the Ministry of Government Services through the Service Ontario initiative and in the years ahead look forward to providing even more services to the Ontario public.
A recent customer satisfaction survey of Driver & Vehicle Licence Issuing Offices reveals a satisfaction rating of better than 93% for in-person customer service.
Issuers are also recognized as a key component of Ministry of Transportation's Road Safety responsibilities, ensuring strict compliance with MTO policies and procedures.
We are proud of our 100-year history serving the Ontario driving public and hope you have gained some valuable information on our history. If you have further inquires or just want to make a suggestion or provide feedback please contact us directly. Thank you for visiting.
